MSC Children’s Writing Competition

Mayo Sailing Club Children’s Writing Competition

This competition is open to all children living in County Mayo who will be between the ages of 9 to 12 on May 5th, 2018.
The Genre is entirely open – it can be fact or fiction, scientific or fantasy, prose, poetry, or a graphic story.

The Theme is: “Clew Bay”

The subject matter can be anything to do with Clew Bay, such as sailing, boating, any other water sport, living on the bay, ecology, wildlife, environment, pollution, etc.

Rules:

The first page must have have the following information:
1: The name and address and phone number of the author
2: The title of the story.
3: The name and address of the school

Every subsequent page must be numbered and have the title of the story on it, but not the name of the author or school.

Stories may be in digital format, handwritten, or drawn

Submissions

The story may be submitted in digital format (MS Word or PDF files) printed, handwritten or drawn.

To be elligible, entries must be received at Books@One by 01 April, 2018.
Late entries cannot be accepted.

Prizes

There will be a longlist of 50 stories and a shortlist of 10 stories

Two first prizes of a 1 week introduction to sailing course, with Mayo Sailing Club including boat hire and junior membership for the whole of 2018, worth €270

A €50 book token from Books@One

All short listed stories will be published in the Mayo News

All long listed stories will be compiled and published in an anthology, which will be available from Books@One.
